Private Client Services

As a private client of Granite Financial Services you will benefit from our broad financial services experience. We will ask an array of questions to discover the essence of you, where you want to go and explore how we can help you get there. Today’s lifestyles can be busy, even frenetic, and we often see people making significant financial decisions based on short term impulses, sometimes in response to ill-informed media speculation and hype . Our approach is more strategic, encouraging clients to take some time out to think through their longer term aspirations before making significant decisions. We then advise them what steps they need to take over the short, medium and longer term to achieve them. And we continue to work with and advise client’s over time as their circumstances change or opportunities emerge, keeping focussed on the end goal and not being distracted by passing fads. Whether you’re an aspiring single, a young couple, a fully-fledged nuclear family, an empty nester or a mature single we’re here to listen to what is important to you.

Investment markets continue to be volatile and it is easy to become unsettled and risk averse.

Personal insurance

The mystery with insurances is why Australians are so prepared to insure their homes and cars, but not the source of the income – you.

Superannuation, estate planning & insurance

Investments

Investment markets continue to be volatile and it is easy to become unsettled and risk averse. At the heart of successful investing is understanding what options are available to achieve your goals within a risk setting that you are comfortable with. Diversification across asset classes is key and we will demonstrate how and why. Notwithstanding our belief in diversification, we also recognise that some clients have a particular preference and comfort with certain assets or asset classes. Whether that is direct property investments or a concentration in Australian equities, our role is to make sure you get the best possible advice to achieve your goals within your risk settings, whilst acknowledging your preferences.

Superannuation & retirement planning

It is only natural that retirement planning takes on greater importance as we get older. For those who haven’t had the opportunity to accumulate significant superannuation or other assets the sooner you address the issue, the sooner you can have the legislated incentives and your capital working for you. Younger clients often don’t think too much about their superannuation contributions. It may seem a relatively small amount of money early in your working life or retirement planning is simply not on the radar; why would it, you are still building your career and there is plenty of time for that later, right?

All of that is true. But given you are contributing every pay day why not make that capital work as hard for you as it can for your entire working career, not just when retirement starts to become an issue. Letting your capital sit in multiple default super funds with automated investment selections not tailored for you and incurring multiple administrations fees, will have a significant impact on your final retirement funds as these inefficiencies compound year after year.

Personal insurance

The mystery with insurances is why Australians are so prepared to insure their homes and cars, but not the source of the income that makes those assets and your aspirations possible in the first place – you. Most people know someone within their orbit that has died prematurely or suffered from a serious and/or prolonged illness or accident that has tested their finances and family resolve. Whenever, significant life events occur that may result in financial dependency such as marriage, birth of children or taking out or increasing a mortgage, it is time to fully consider how to protect yourself and those closest to you. Whether you need Life, Total and Permanent Disability, Trauma and Income Protection insurance or a combination will depend upon your specific circumstances, and can change over time. Whilst affordability can be an issue for some clients, for most the real question is can you afford not to be protected.

It is generally wise to address superannuation, estate planning and your insurance needs as a “package”. In order to achieve your desired estate planning result, you must be cognisant of how your super and life insurance death benefit nominations will work in conjunction with your estate plan to avoid unintended consequences.
